How it works

Three steps from account creation to opened Planar.

Install the connector in Claude. Draft your proposal in Claude. Open it as a live URL. The whole post-draft workflow — signature, payment, scheduling, engagement tracking — lives on the one URL. The goal is under sixty seconds from a finished draft to a sent link.

01

Install Planar as a custom connector in Claude.

Open Claude. Go to Settings → Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector. Paste your Planar MCP server URL and your workspace API key. Claude handles the rest of the OAuth handshake.

No CLI, no config files, no restarts. The same path used to install Gmail, GitHub, or any other first-class connector. Once installed, Planar tools appear in your Claude conversations under the connector menu, and the Planar Skill knows how to use them.

The dashboard at app.openplanar.com walks you through the exact clicks and provides a copy-to-clipboard URL plus API key reveal — typical install time is under three minutes. A connection-check panel polls your API key usage so you see the connection go live in real time.

02

Draft your proposal in Claude.

Tell Claude what the proposal is. The Planar Skill (in the Anthropic Skill directory) knows the structure, the terminology for your vertical, and the common pricing patterns: fixed-fee, retainer, hourly, value-based, milestone-based, and the typical payment schedules that go with each.

The draft renders as a live Artifact preview before opening. You iterate on the Artifact — the exact rendered Planar page, minus the recipient-specific actions — until it's right. Edit any field, change the payment schedule, swap a deliverable, attach a custom section.

Not ready to install the connector? The dashboard includes a web-based markdown draft form that produces the same Planar. Same deal surface, same integrations, same engagement tracking. The Claude-native experience is the deeper one; the web form is the floor.

03

Open the Planar. Send one link.

One MCP call from Claude (or one click in the dashboard) opens the Planar to a live URL on your subdomain or your custom domain. The link works in any browser on any device. No account, no app, no friction for the recipient.

Signature, payment, and scheduling are embedded on the same page. Native click-to-sign works inline; DocuSign and Dropbox Sign embed for clients who require an external envelope. Stripe Connect routes payments. Cal.com and Google Calendar handle scheduling.

You see everything that happens after. Opens, sections viewed, button clicks. Versions update at the same URL with a diff banner. Signed Planars produce a deterministic, audit-grade PDF.

The whole loop

Six primary use cases, one URL.

  1. Initial open

Sender drafts in Claude using the Planar Skill. Previews in Artifacts. One MCP call opens the Planar to a live URL. Sender sends one link.

  2. Negotiation & revision

Sender updates the Planar through Claude. Re-opens to a new version. Same URL, new version. Recipient sees a diff banner.

  3. Signature & payment

Recipient signs on the page (native click-to-sign or external envelope). Payment unlocks. Sender notified.

  4. Scheduling

Recipient schedules kickoff directly on the Planar via the sender's chosen scheduling provider.

  5. Engagement monitoring

Sender sees opens, section dwell, button clicks, share events — all on the dashboard.

  6. Client context recall

Sender returns to the Claude Project for a recurring client and opens follow-on Planars with full context preserved (v1.5).
